Capturing the Soul Rodeo in Ocala, Florida — June 27, 2026

2026-07-06

On June 27, 2026, I had the opportunity to photograph the Soul Rodeo in Ocala, Florida—an unforgettable event filled with adrenaline, heritage, and community spirit. Known for its deep equestrian roots, Ocala was the perfect setting for a rodeo that celebrated both tradition and culture.

From the moment the gates opened, the energy was undeniable. Riders, families, and spectators came together for a night of bull riding, barrel racing, horseback performances, and live entertainment. The atmosphere carried the perfect mix of excitement and pride, making every moment worth capturing.

Behind my lens, the Soul Rodeo was more than just action—it was storytelling in motion.

The power of the horses, the focus of the riders, and the connection between generations created a visual narrative that reflected the heart of rodeo culture. Every ride, every fall, and every victory showed resilience, discipline, and passion.

What stood out most was the celebration of Black cowboy heritage.

For many, rodeo culture represents a legacy that has shaped American history for centuries. Events like the Soul Rodeo continue to honor that legacy while creating opportunities for new generations to embrace and preserve it. Seeing that pride firsthand—and documenting it—was one of the most rewarding parts of the night.

Some of my favorite images came from the moments in between: riders preparing in silence before entering the arena, families cheering from the stands, and children watching with admiration as cowboys and cowgirls showcased their skills. Those candid moments often reveal the true soul of an event.

Photographing the Soul Rodeo in Ocala reminded me why I’m passionate about event photography. It’s about more than capturing images—it’s about preserving moments, culture, and history in a way that lasts.

This gallery is dedicated to the riders, the community, and the traditions that keep rodeo culture alive.

Until the next ride.
